First I was all OH BUT I LOVE THIS OLD BED AND I AM SO SENTIMENTAL ABOUT IT AND LOOK AT IT. It’s held up by books. BY BOOKS!

THIS OLD BED. Hand me down with hand me down mattresses from my Grammie (what a broad she was). Eliza is the only one who still enjoys it. She will adjust. She’s been through much worse. TWO TODDLERS ANYONE? She will never forgive us. But she is 113 years old, so she can clearly handle her business.
This bed is the cause of backaches and sliding to the other side because of the terrible awful worn down mattress and the broken down frame crashing down at 4:15am after you finally fall asleep after waking for the 4th time getting up with babies.
This bed is held up by books. Did I mention? Now they are returned to their proper spot in boxes in the basement until we get our basement completely fixed from the flood. BIG WHOOP.

NO MORE BOOKS HOLDING UP BEDS!
THEN I WAS ALL ok, maybe we should really get a new bed and my sweet husband got us out and haggled and got us a TOP SECRET DEAL. We know this because the Manager at American Mattress WROTE DOWN A NUMBER AND SLID IT ACROSS THE DESK TO US. Also, the kid working there had the same name as our son. SIGN? You tell me, jerks.
So we bought. Nothing fancy. But new to us for the first time in our 42 and 41 years respectively (I married a younger man AHEM) is a BIG EFFING DEAL.
We made the purchase on PRESIDENTS DAY. Is that the American Dream Sale or what.
And then today LOOK WHAT SHOWED UP AT OUR HOUSE?
“What is that?”
“Choo choo!”
“That’s a new mattress for mommy and daddy!”
“NO ME. NO BEBE. NO ME!” *
*these babies are banished from our bedroom forever.
So then the nice gentlemen (HI GUYS HI HI HI!) bring the mattress, box-spring and frame into our home removed our old ones FREE OF CHARGE because we are VIPS at American Mattress (shhhh. we are). And we all wave BUH BYE OLD DEATH TRAP!
Except for the headboard because you know, WE ARE NOT MILLIONAIRES and cannot afford an actual bed right now so we are using the old headboard until inspiration hits us.
Because THIS –
is a beautiful thing to two adults who have worked their butts off.
WE HAVE OUR FIRST NEW BED. We have no new fancy sheets or mattress covers (old one is fine for now) or fancy linens or headboards, but we have new mattresses. And for us, we are feeling mighty spoiled and fine. One thing at a time. This is a marathon, people. Life. I don’t need you to tell me what we need or don’t need, I need you to celebrate with us. Celebrate that we have a home and a bed and a warm safe place to live. As I celebrate all you have with you. We have SO MUCH. We have everything.
