Dear Parents – You are Doing it Right

If you wake up in the morning and you are happy when you remember that you have little people waiting for you in the next room, you are doing it right.

If you wander in their room and they are ecstatic to see you and greet you for the day, you are doing it right.

If you change them and clean them up and get them ready for the day, you are doing it right.

If you get ready yourself for the day ahead and manage to make it out of the house at a relatively decent time, you are doing it right.

If you stop for one more hug and kiss and I love you before leaving, you are doing it right.

If you can’t stop thinking about them all day and count the minutes until you are with them again, you are doing it right.

If you appreciate each day as it is, yet long for more weekend and non-work days with them, you are doing it right.

If you enjoy having some time to yourself and appreciate doing your work, you are doing it right.

If you race home at the end of each day and practically knock folks over to get in the door to smoosh them with love, you are doing it right.

If you are on the floor in 2 seconds flat with lipstick everywhere and your glasses and earrings pulled in 5 different directions from that love, you are doing it right.

If you take in the precious moments of bathing and playing and feeding and reading and singing and dancing with them before they go to bed for the night, you are doing it right.

If you make sure the temperature and the lighting is just right and they are snug as bugs, you are doing it right.

If you are with them all day or go outside for work, if you are providing for them, you are doing it right.

If you relax when you can after they go to bed and reflect on the day including their highs and their lows, your highs and lows, you are doing it right.

If you sneak back in just one more time to watch them sleep and marvel at your bounty, you are doing it right.

If you are grateful for what you have instead of wishing for more or different or better, you are doing it right.

If you go to bed happy and relieved and hopeful, or just wanting to do better tomorrow, because let’s face it, not every day is a winner, you are doing it right.
